Veterans Beer Club, San Diego (VBC)

The Veterans Beer Club was formed in 2016 by three retired Marine Corps veterans who are passionate about helping Veterans transition into civilian life after the military.

The VBC purpose is three-fold: first, assist transitioning service members through networking, discussions of important events, introductions to industries across the region, and ensuring service members are personally introduced to leaders in aforementioned groups. The VBC believes by supporting, vetting, and assisting noteworthy organizations that legitimately help veterans this will also help the entire San Diego community. Second, translate our military service to community service, ensuring we continue our leadership into non-profit, volunteer, and civil service organizations. Lastly, continue our sense of camaraderie, thus safeguarding the bonds established during our military service, and ensuring there is a safety net of resources for veterans. VBC will continue to interface with senior veterans and business leaders in the community, and leverage their passion for assisting fellow veterans. Also, since the Marine Corps was born in a bar in 1775, having the VBC rotate amongst the 100+ breweries in San Diego is only fitting for our group.

Paraphrasing Ben Franklin, "Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to have a happy transition."

We should all pay homage to those wonderful words of wisdom.

The bar is open. Semper Fi!

Veterans Crisis Line

What is 988?

The Veterans Crisis Line's new number—988 then Press 1—helps make it easier to remember and share the number to access help in times of need.

Signed into law in 2020, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act authorized 988 as the new three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. As part of the law, all telephone service providers in the U.S. had to activate the number no later than July 16, 2022.

Veterans can use this new option by dialing 988 and pressing 1 to contact the Veterans Crisis Line. Veterans may still reach the Veterans Crisis Line with the previous phone number—1-800-273-8255 and Press 1—by text (838255), and through chat (VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat).

The goal is to educate all 220,000 to 240,000 transitioning service members each year and their dependents on free resources to ease their transition and life needs, and more importantly, provide hope.

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP)

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began in 2003 as a small, grassroots effort providing simple care and comfort items to the hospital bedsides of the first wounded service members returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. As their post-service needs evolved, so have our programs and services. Today, through our direct programs in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care, along with our advocacy efforts, we improve the lives of millions of warriors and their families.

This effort requires the passion and commitment of friends, supporters, and like-minded organizations that enable us to fulfill our mission. With their collaboration and support, we strive to ensure that when those who serve come home, they’re afforded every opportunity to be as successful as a civilian as they were in the military.
