At first, Sandra found herself coaching her fellow veterans one by one. She began by coaching evenings and weekends, virtually and in person, and teaching them job search skills so they could compete with their civilian counterparts who had stronger job search experiences. “The job search skills were all the veterans were missing,” says Sandra, “they met or exceeded the qualifications, they just needed to know the rules of the game to be able to win!”
Sandra quickly realized the one-on-one coaching was a successful way to help her peers find jobs, but also realized that there were many who needed the same support. This is when the concept of VetCTAP workshop series was born. She knew the program needed to be built around three key elements: one-on-one coaching, HR professionals as facilitators and coaches, and reaching military members before they left the service, allowing for a smooth and successful career change. Sandra recruited Sr. Learning and Development expert, Janis Whitaker and other HR professionals to create a job search workshop series.
The VetCTAP workshop series (formally CTAP) began in 2012 successfully assisting military, veterans, and spouses through their career transition. The program has sustained a 90% success rate of graduates obtaining the career of their choice. This success is not possible without HR and business professionals who volunteer to teach and coach, and donors who share in our passion supporting veterans and spouses in transition.

The VetCTAP program concept grew out of the personal military-to-civilian transition of Sandra Fichter, (US Army Officer) who is a Human Resources (HR) professional and President of JBS Transition Experts. In her role in HR, Sandra received and reviewed resumes from transitioning veterans. It pained her to see resumes that did not reflect the talent and experience she knew her fellow veterans possessed. She was even more frustrated to know they would not be selected for the jobs they were qualified for because they were not able to communicate their strengths and skills in their resume.
“We increase the veteran employment rate by helping transitioning military, veterans, guard & reserve, and military spouses build personal confidence and enhance their individual economic stability through job search skills training, practical tools, and one-on-one coaching.”
“Veterans employed in the career of their choice, where they can comfortably provide for themselves and their family, and be contributing members of their community.”
